Le Collectif La Bringue’s recent Kick-Start My Heart event was not only its biggest party of the year, but also its largest to date. Featuring a wealth of DJ talent, including Aykan, Cassie Raptor, Cera Khin, Øtta, Slam, and Somewhen, the French techno collective’s end-of-year celebration welcomed 6,000 guests to Parc des Expositions d'Angers in western France.

Kick-Start My Heart was produced by La Bringue, with support and supervision from 99dB. Combeuil Audio was chosen to handle the sound design, delivering its largest Funktion-One deployment to date and the biggest sound system La Bringue has ever had at one of its events.

Combeuil Audio used Funktion-One’s Projection design and prediction software, which now includes the groundbreaking wave based low frequency model, enabling company founder Guillaume Combeuil to design the system and accurately predict its acoustic behaviour. 

The comprehensive installation comprised two main stacks of six Funktion-One Evo 7TH speakers, six Evo 7T, six Evo 7TL, and 20 F124, plus two Evo 6SH, two Res 2, and six F121 speakers as infills. Four Evo 6SH and four F215 Mk2 speakers in two stacks were used in the back booth, with an Evo 2 on each side for delays.

“For this event we needed a modular system that could adapt to the size and capacity of the venue,” explains Bouillon. “The two stacks of F124s gave us both a visually and acoustically massive setup. Moreover, given the 65-metre span of the dance floor, the range and precision of the Evo 7s were a clear advantage, enhanced by the Evo 2 delays. This combination exceeded all our expectations and we received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the public.”

Lauding the benefits of using Projection and the precision and versatility of Funktion-One systems, Combeuil says: “The controlled directivity of Funktion-One speakers helps direct the sound towards the dancefloor and not on the metal walls. I used Projection to tell me exactly where I was going to excite the walls and precisely calculate the gains and delays needed to control it all.

“The scalability of the Evo 7 system is really practical and as a rental company this is critical because it enables me to propose different solutions to my competitors. It also allows me to work with incredibly passionate people!”
