Vote for Neushoorn - Pioneering Spatial Audio for Live Music
Neushoorn in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, advanced its main hall with a fully immersive sound system, delivered by More AV in collaboration with Funktion-One and Holophonix. The 750-capacity venue now combines its original Funktion-One system with spatial audio capability, creating a more engaging and expressive environment for live music, club events and artistic performances.
Building on a relationship that began with the original installation in 2015, the project was driven by a desire to enhance the audience experience while future-proofing the venue. Rather than replace what already worked, the team focused on preserving the character of the Funktion-One system and extending it.
A total of 12 Funktion-One PSM15 loudspeakers have been deployed throughout the space, supported by F61 and F1201.2 systems to ensure consistent coverage across the dancefloor, balcony and rear areas. Combined with Holophonix processing, the system introduces spatial control without compromising the clarity, impact and tonal balance that define the Funktion-One sound.
The project was completed in under a year through close collaboration between all parties. Neushoorn’s commitment to sound quality and willingness to push beyond conventional approaches make it a standout contender for this year’s Mondo DR Awards.

Vote for Open Ground - The Best Sounding New Club in the World
Open Ground in Wuppertal, Germany, is a nightclub built inside a former underground bunker, developed over seven years with sound quality and the dancefloor experience as the primary design drivers. Led by Markus Riedel and Mark Ernestus, the ambitious project has delivered a venue that many regard as the best sounding club in Europe.
The sound design was part of the conversation from the outset. The main room system combines Evo 6 loudspeakers with F221 bass enclosures and F132 horn-loaded subwoofers and delivers even coverage, a stable stereo image and a controlled, powerful low-frequency response. Extensive acoustic treatment was installed to manage the bunker’s hard concrete environment, enabling the system to perform with clarity and consistency at all levels.
A January 2026 upgrade refined the system further, improving stereo definition and low-frequency balance while preserving the established character of the room.
Open Ground's uncompromising focus on sound and the audience experience make it a standout contender for this year’s Mondo DR Awards.
